Dignity lingers in the past,

a time free from storms, peaceful and calm.

Days alternate one after another,

while worldly affairs rise and fall, drift and sink.

Now wind and snow rage together,

even the wooden door is dust-strewn, no longer pure.

New years and old keep intersecting,

starlight tints the night sky like faint ink strokes.

We can only spend half our lives comprehending the truths of the world—

looking inward to examine our original hearts,

and reaching outward to seek the ultimate truth.
